I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and did not want to be bogged down with a CPAP machine since I like to travel. The doctors at the Center fitted me with a mouth appliance, similar to the night guard I was already wearing for teeth grinding. The new appliance took the place of my mouth guard for teeth grinding, effectively increased my oxygen level at night, improved my sleep and almost eliminated almost all my snoring. Listen to your spouse if they say you have a problem, and get tested for a sleep disorder. It has helped me, and I now sleep better. I also do not wake up as much and am able to sleep an hour or more. Now I wake up and feel good. Office staff and all are very nice, and they call you the day before your appointment which helped me because I work two jobs and sometimes I do not get a lot of sleep. The TAP oral appliance will be a good alternative to CPAP when I’m traveling on business, camping or on a wildland fire assignment. Based on a Medibyte home sleep study, the TAP appliance essentially cured my sleep apnea (dropping AHI below 5) and reduced my snoring to a couple episodes with significantly lower volume. Although the TAP is costly, it seems like a good solution for me, and the CPC staff was thorough and attentive to my needs/concerns. ~Steven L., Boise, ID~

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and had to wear a CPAP to get any relief. After a year’s treatment with CPAP, I discovered another possible treatment- an oral appliance. I was referred to the Craniofacial Pain Center and made very comfortable from the beginning. The appliance and treatment were explained to me and I was glad to have a possible alternative to CPAP. The process was simple. The treatment appliance was comfortable. I was able to wear it all night the very first night. I felt rested. I have since only used the appliance, no more CPAP! I feel great! The device actually helps me go to sleep sooner than I normally do. Without it, I watch TV, read a book, and take an hour or so to finally go to sleep. When I put the device in it’s like a signal that I’m going to sleep- no TV, no books- I go to sleep sooner and sleep longer. I have what is called severe sleep apnea. The CPAP was such that it aggravated my symptoms since I am up sometimes driving at night, etc. So I tried the mouth piece. I do much better with it. Cynthia had experienced many years of upper respiratory problems and ear infections since birth. Since she has down syndrome, we naturally assumed that these were her normal condition. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. My friends and family were so worried about how tired and run down I looked. I was given a CPAP to use, but had so much trouble with dealing with the straps and chin strap that I put off going to bed until two hours later than I wanted to. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and did not want to be bogged down with a CPAP machine since I like to travel. The doctors at the Center fitted me with a mouth appliance, similar to the night guard I was already wearing for teeth grinding. Listen to your spouse if they say you have a problem, and get tested for a sleep disorder. It has helped me, and I now sleep better. I also do not wake up as much and am able to sleep an hour or more. Now I wake up and feel good. The TAP oral appliance will be a good alternative to CPAP when I’m traveling on business, camping or on a wildland fire assignment. Based on a Medibyte home sleep study, the TAP appliance essentially cured my sleep apnea (dropping AHI below 5) and reduced my snoring to a couple episodes with significantly lower volume. Although the TAP is costly, it seems like a good solution for me, and the CPC staff was thorough and attentive to my needs/concerns. ~Steven L., Boise, ID~

My jaw was so painful it would wake me up at night. I would spend days with my face hurting. CPC worked with me to design a night guard that really works. They were very patient and caring. I came in after years of pain thinking there was no help for me. I learned that I was wrong and there was actually an easy solution. The device actually helps me go to sleep sooner than I normally do. Without it, I watch TV, read a book, and take an hour or so to finally go to sleep. When I put the device in it’s like a signal that I’m going to sleep- no TV, no books- I go to sleep sooner and sleep longer. Cynthia had experienced many years of upper respiratory problems and ear infections since birth. Since she has down syndrome, we naturally assumed that these were her normal condition. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. My friends and family were so worried about how tired and run down I looked. I was given a CPAP to use, but had so much trouble with dealing with the straps and chin strap that I put off going to bed until two hours later than I wanted to.
